Thumbs up!! My 7 year old son had his teeth sealed by Dr. Adam. Dr Adam explained to my son what he could expect and spoke to him through the whole (short) process. My 5 year old and 3 year old had there first dentist visit at Adelberg Montalvan Pediatric Dental and I was terrified leading up to it because my daughter doesn't even like going to the doctors. We walked through the front doors and my kids took one look and ran in! It's like magical under the sea playground for kids. We waited about 5-10 mins in the waiting room ( my kids could have waited all day with all the fun stuff they had to do) and we were brought into the dentist room. They both saw doctor Adam and an assistant who both were wonderful with my children. I watched both my children hop in the chair and get their check up and cleanings and they weren't scared one bit. There is a TV on the ceiling with cartoons on for them to watch while they are getting their teeth cleaned (brilliant). I can't say enough good things about this place. They were out of network for me which almost stopped me from going but when the front desk checked- my entire bill was covered by insurance! - Talia S.

It’s National Nutrition Month! We know it's not always easy to get kids to eat healthy, but sticking to a nutritional, well-balanced diet is essential for tooth-health! Make sure to incorporate the below foods this month, and always:

High fibrous foods: Fruits, vegetables, and grains help to scrub teeth and stimulates saliva, your mouth’s first defense in fighting mouth monsters. Saliva helps neutralize any acids that may attack tooth enamel. 

Building Blocks: Make sure to serve up plenty of foods that are rich in essential vitamins and minerals like vitamins A, C, D, and calcium and phosphorous. These nutrients help to protect and rebuild tooth enamel and can be found in beef, eggs, whole grains, poultry, fish, tofu, and many nuts! 

Dairy: Dairy products like milk and yogurt are known to provide the calcium and phosphate needed to help strengthen teeth. Cheese is also a great source of calcium and helps to stimulate saliva as well! Do keep in mind though, that the lactose in milk can attack teeth if left lingering in the mouth. That’s why it’s best to put baby to bed with a bottle of water.

Water: Absolutely the most tooth-friendly beverage, water will rinse away food particles and sugars left behind in the mouth. Fluoridated water in particular, has the most benefit for tiny teeth!

My children are late dentist visitors. Ironically, the reason for the delay was probably more to do with my fear, than there's. Unfortunately, by the time of their first visit (ages 7 and 8), they both have over 5 cavities each and my daughter, age 7, needed an extraction. Dr. Marc Bennett not only made sure that my children are completely at ease during their dental visits, but he calms my nerves as well, even without sweet air! ;) My children look forward to going to the dentist and have never even said the word "ouch". Kids Friendly Hanukkah Crafts

Tonight is the first night of Hanukkah! And in honor of this year’s holiday - we’ve gathered some easy Hanukkah crafts for kids to help in celebration:

Felt Dreidel Banner - With assorted colors of felt, craft glue, scissors and some string - you’ll have a banner to string up in no time. Just draw a dreidel shape onto a piece of felt, cut it out and use as a template for the other dreidels for your banner. Then just cut out some shapes (circles, triangles, squares) from the assorted colors, and add them to your dreidels. View the full tutorial here »

Handprint Menorah - Make your own simple, unique menorah with some card stock and paint. Dip your child’s hands in the blue paint, then make a handprint on the card stock being sure to overlap the thumbs. Be sure to wash hands before adding the yellow thumbprint as the flame! Hanukkah Tissue Paper Suncatchers - Use craft sticks to form a Dreidel or Star of David shape, then cover it in tissue paper to make a beautiful sun catcher for the windows! View the full tutorial here »

#TuesdayTips - For Keeping Your Kids Smiling Through the New Year!

We know the holiday season is a busy time for everyone. With holiday recess from school around the corner and a plethora of holiday happenings - it's not hard for daily routines to fall by the wayside. Don’t let your kids oral health take a back seat as well!

Holiday breaks are a great time to help your little ones establish and maintain healthy dental habits - and their diet is an important part:

Moderate Sugar Intake - Sugary candy, drinks, and food are part of the holidays and with this comes the increase risk of cavities. Look for sugar-free options and avoid carbonated drinks (which can actually erode teeth more than sweetened drinks).

Keep an Eye on Cooked Starches - Cooked starches like breads, pasta, pretzels, and chips can lead to cavities as much as sugars can since they often take longer to clear the mouth than sugars.

Serve Cheese as Snacks - Cheeses like aged cheddar, Swiss, mozzarella, and Monterrey jack are great snack or post meal options because they clear the mouth of food and neutralize the acids that attack teeth.

Thanksgiving is less than a week away! As you prepare for the influx of guests and start readying your shopping lists, it’s also important to remember oral health. 

Proper nutrition is essential in preventing tooth decay and gum disease. Make sure this year’s meal is something your teeth will be thankful for, be sure your little ones eat up these tooth-friendly items :

• Meats - Turkey is rich in phosphorus and helps keep your teeth healthy and strong
• Fruits and Veggies - Fiber-rich fruits and vegetables (including sweet potatoes and natural cranberries) act like detergent in your mouth and stimulate saliva!
• Dairy - Milk goes great in mashed potatoes or as your beverage for the meal. Calcium in dairy products works to strengthen teeth

39th Annual West Islip Country Fair This Sunday!

This Sunday, head over to the 39th Annual West Islip Country Fair! On your way, be sure to stop  by our West Islip office: we’ll have a table outside featuring giveaways, games to win prizes, and FREE face painting!

The fair takes place this Sunday, September 21st (rain date is the following Sunday, September 28th) from 11am - 5pm on the West Islip Public Library Grounds. There will be over 300 craft vendors, children's bounce house and slide, petting zoo, magician, sand art, food and more!

If you’re a fan of live music you won’t be disappointed, the music schedule is below:
