Recent Reviews - Adelberg Montalvan Pediatric Dental

Why should you choose (and recommend to your friends) Adelberg Montalvan Pediatric Dental for all of your child’s dental care needs?

Our testimonials speak for themselves!

Thumbs up!! My 7 year old son had his teeth sealed by Dr. Adam. Dr Adam explained to my son what he could expect and spoke to him through the whole (short) process. Dr. Adam also explained what we could expect after the procedure and he was on point. The dental assistant and front desk were also very nice. - Joseph S.

I brought Kyle in to have his bonding finessed by Dr Jeanine. It was the first time we met her and her assistant. They were both lovely. Dr Jeanine gave me back my Kyle smile. She was patient, kind and absolutely perfect! We couldn't be happier!! Thank you! Your entire staff is amazing! Miss Linda sees my Jake who has anxiety. She is patient, compassionate and fun! He won't let anyone else clean his teeth. Your front office staff is welcoming and extremely personable. We feel like we are apart of the Adelberg Montalvan Family.  - Kyle W.

My 8 year old daughter had a frenectomy done last Saturday and both Dr. Adam and his assistant, Marina, were wonderful. They work as a great team and know just how to handle children. They made my daughter as comfortable as possible and it truly was a good experience. Thank you! - Laurie K.

My 5 year old and 3 year old had there first dentist visit at Adelberg Montalvan Pediatric Dental and I was terrified leading up to it because my daughter doesn't even like going to the doctors. We walked through the front doors and my kids took one look and ran in! It's like magical under the sea playground for kids. We waited about 5-10 mins in the waiting room ( my kids could have waited all day with all the fun stuff they had to do) and we were brought into the dentist room. They both saw doctor Adam and an assistant who both were wonderful with my children. I watched both my children hop in the chair and get their check up and cleanings and they weren't scared one bit. There is a TV on the ceiling with cartoons on for them to watch while they are getting their teeth cleaned (brilliant). I can't say enough good things about this place. They were out of network for me which almost stopped me from going but when the front desk checked- my entire bill was covered by insurance! - Talia S.

Best dental office we could ever hope for! Usually we're seen in the West Islip office but for an emergency the Massapequa Park office took care of us and one would have thought we were patients in their office for years! - Megan T.

Thank you to all who have shared their experiences with us, we always strive to care for our patients as if they were our own children and love hearing that they had a pleasant dental experience in our offices. Have you visited recently and have a story to share? Let us know on our Facebook page!

Important Teeth Terms

Caring for your children’s teeth is essential for starting them on the right to path to good oral health. If you’re uncertain of some words we’ve used during your appointments or on phone calls, we’re here to help you brush up on your vocab.

See the below important teeth terms everyone should know:

Primary Teeth: You may have heard the term primary teeth, milk teeth, or deciduous teeth, but most commonly - baby teeth. Around age 6 most children will lose their baby teeth and the permanent, adult teeth will come in.

Anesthesia: This kind of pain numbing medication is applied ‘locally’ - only to the area that needs numbing. A local anesthetic may be used while filing cavities or other minor procedures. For serious surgeries, general anesthesia may be required - which produces partial or complete unconsciousness

Gingivitis: Triggered by bacteria inside the mouth, gingivitis is the first stage of gum disease. Gingivitis causes inflammation of the gum around the roots of the teeth and if the connective matter around the teeth is damaged, it may progress to tooth loss.

Fixed Appliances: This is another term used to describe semi-permanent devices attached to the teeth, like braces. Traditional braces are bonded to the front of the teeth to fix alignment problems.

Brush Up on Your Brushing & Flossing!

Do YOU know the proper way to brush and floss your teeth? Often times when parents don’t, they end up teaching their young wrongs the wrong way to brush thus forming poor dental habits. Not sure if this rings true in your household? See below to brush up on how to brush your teeth:
Brushing Rules:
  • Keep the toothbrush at a 45 degree angle towards the gums
  • Use a gentle circular motion while brushing
  • Clean all surfaces of the teeth including the front, back, and top
  • Brush tongue to remove any bacteria that could cause bad breath
  • Avoid vigorous or harsh scrubbing, this can irritate the gums
  • Brush your teeth at least twice a day, in the morning and before bed
  • Brush your child’s teeth twice a day until they are old enough to do it on their own
When it comes to your children’s teeth, taking care of them properly depends on what age group you’re dealing with. At birth clean your child’s gums with a soft cloth and water. When their teeth start to show, brush them with a soft bristled toothbrush. Children under the age of two should use a small “smear” of toothpaste and for the ages 2-5, use a “pea-size” amount of toothpaste. Use ADA-accepted fluoride toothpaste and urge them not to swallow it but instead spit or rinse.
Flossing is just as important in the fight against gum disease and tooth loss. Flossing removes plaque between teeth and under the gum line where a toothbrush may have problems reaching. To get the maximum benefits from flossing, use the below technique:
Flossing Rules:
  • Should begin when any two teeth have begun to touch
  • Break off about 18 inches of floss and wind the floss around your two middle fingers
  • Hold the floss tightly between thumb and forefingers with an inch of floss in between
  • Gently guide floss between teeth but do not jerk or snap floss into the gums (this can cause bleeding and damage to occur)
  • When the floss reaches the gum line, curve the floss into a C-shape against the tooth
  • Be sure to Supervise your child’s brushing and flossing until they are 7-8 years old
