Presidents Week Activities for Kids

Presidents Week is here, which means a whole week off from school for the kids!

Good news: For parents who have to work, there are plenty of daytime camp activities to sign your kids up for. And for parents who are looking for some fun as well, there's plenty of happenings the whole family can enjoy! See below:
Drop-off Art Classes 2/20 — 2/23
Key to My Art – Amityville
Just 2 miles from our Massapequa Park office, you’ll find Key to My Art — the perfect creative outlet for your kids! They’ll be offering 7 drop-off paint events for kids ages 5 and up for $25, costs include all supplies and instruction. With the Trolls and Pikachu Paint Event already sold out, book your reservations for the Star Wars, Lego Batman, Sleepy Fair, or Shopkins Paint Event now! Classes are at 11am or 1:30pm.

Glowgolf (daily)
Roosevelt Field Mall — Garden City
Now open in the Roosevelt Field Mall (Concourse Level near LensCrafters and the Kids Play Area), be sure to check out Glowgolf! This glow-in-the-dark mini-golf course features 27 unique holes using fluorescent golf balls and putters, with obstacles along the way. Perfect for the whole family!

Winter Break Camp at the Farm 2/20 — 2/24
Suffolk County Farm and Education Center — Yaphank
This educational day camp is specially designed for a mixed K-6 audience. Each day, kids will utilize all the farm has to offer as well as choose a unique custom learning experience: from Pokécamp to Cozy Crafts. The cost is $225 for the full week (Monday - Friday, 9am to 3pm) or $50 per day. Call to register: 631.852.4600.

Shrek: The Musical, Jr. 2/20 — 2/24
Smithtown Center for the Performing Arts — Smithtown
Don’t miss everyone's favorite ogre in this hilarious stage spectacle! During Presidents Week, shows will run daily at 1pm. Tickets are $15 per person!

Winter Fun-Cation Camp 2/20 — 2/24
Long Island Aquarium — Riverhead
Working all week long? Drop off the kids for a few days of fun at the Long Island Aquarium. From 9am — 5pm daily, kids ages 6 through 14 will explore the Aquarium, visit the Arcade, watch a move, make crafts and more! Feel free to sign up for the full week ($199) or just a few days ($50/day), reservations are required: call 631.208.9200, ext. 426.

Penguins & Pajamas 2/23 — 2/24
Long Island Aquarium — Riverhead
A sleepover with penguins? Can it get any better?! How about sleeping in front of a 120,000-gallon shark tank, a Best Buddies tank or even under the watchful eye of a giant Pacific octopus? Bring the kids (and yourselves) to the Penguins & Pajamas Sleepover Thursday, February 23. Continental breakfast is included in the morning! From spook walks of all frights to an obstacle course for all-ages and all-abilities, here’s our picks for family fun events to check out this weekend!

Kids “Not So Scary” Days - Bayville Adventure Park
All Weekend | Price: $22.75 Scream Park Only, $31.75 Scream Park + Adventure Park, $39.50 2 Day Ticket for Scream Park + Adventure Park
Bring the little ones to Bayville Adventure Park for a less scary version of their nighttime haunted house. No live actors, less scary effects, plus many other Halloween themed events and attractions like a Spooky Tree Top Adventure, Tombstone Treasure Hunt, Pumpkin Patch, Halloween Story Telling and more!

Spooky Fest - Tanglewood Preserve, Rockville Centre
Saturday October 15th | Price: $10 for non-spooky attractions, $15 for all attractions (scary and non-scary)
This Saturday night, and another 6 nights this month, sixteen acres of the Tanglewood Preserve are transformed into a family friendly Halloween event. There’s a Not-So-Spooky Walk, a ‘Very Scary’ Spooky Walk, plus kids arts and crafts, zombie maze, mystic den, and some merry monsters! 

 
HappyFest - Long Island Sports Park, Calverton
Saturday October 15th | Price: $29, Children 3 and younger are Free
Take part in the first ever all-ages, all-abilities, accessible obstacle course and family fun festival! HappyFest is designed so that every member of the family can complete a 1 mile+ obstacle course, regardless of disabilities (or not). 

 
Village Day Fall Festival - The Great Lawn, Sands Point Preserve
Sunday October 16th | Price: $10 per car for members, $20 per car non-members
Enjoy a day on The Great Lawn overlooking the Long Island Sound with hayrides, a petting zoo, pony rides, pumpkin painting, and a Green Grocer market featuring award-winning artisanal cheese and fresh produce.

Holiday Recess: Things to Do This Week With Kids

Tuesday, December 29th - Sunday, January 3rd

Last chance to check out Bayville’s Winter Wonderland before it closes for the season on Sunday, January 3rd! Families can visit Santa's Toy Factory Funhouse and Mirror Maze, ride the Holiday Express Train, go iceskating and more. Price: $22 (includes all activities).
 
Princess Frog - A Musical Fairy Tale
Long Island Children’s Museum
Sunday, December 27th - Thursday, December 31st at 11:30 am and 2 pm

Mix three wild boys, who happen to be princes, one frustrated (Queen) mother, three magic rocks and an enchanted frog and you have the makings of a modern fairy tale; set to come to life on the LICM stage! Fee: $9 with museum admission ($7 LICM members), $12 theater only.
 
Winter-Holiday Break Full Day Camp!  
The Safari Adventure Riverhead
Monday, December 28th - Thursday, December 31st from 9:30 am - 3:30 pm

GymNation and Safari Adventure are excited to team up and offer a fantastic 6 hour Winter Break special! Each day begins with 3 hours of action packed gymnastic fun. At 12:30pm, kids are escorted to Safari Adventure and will enjoy lunch followed by an afternoon of playing, climbing, and bouncing in the open play area. Camp program is limited to children 5 and up. All pricing includes lunch, afternoon snack, 12 tokens per day for arcade games & craft activities at Safari Adventure. $75 per day - call to register. 631-727-4386
 
Countdown to 12 at LICM
Long Island Children’s Museum
Thursday, December 31st from 12pm - 4pm

Ring in the New Year at LICM’s annual Noon Year’s Eve celebration. This year, join in on the Sweet 2016 themed party with a day full of fun activities, a ball drop, and an extreme dance party. Open to all ages, free with museum admission.
 
New Year’s Bash for Kids!
Cold Spring Harbor Whaling Museum
Thursday, December 31st from 11am - 12pm

Bring the family to count down to 12 (noon!). Enjoy free hot chocolate and crafts. Best for ages 3-6, siblings welcome. $8 for children, adults regular admission.

Mrs. Claus Saves the Day!
BayWay Arts Center
Saturday, January 2nd at 2pm

Mrs. Claus has her hands full helping a youthful reindeer who possesses an unusual skill. Harassed mercilessly and excluded by his peers because of this trait, he manages to prove himself one Christmas Eve after Santa and Mrs. Claus ask him to help out. $11 per ticket

Get Ready For August! Things To Do on LI Next Month

It's the last month of summer vacation, are you running out of ways to keep your kids occupied? Don't worry, we’ve got your back! Make some plans to take advantage of some of these great events listed below.



Nassau County Museum of Art, 1 Museum Drive, Roslyn Harbor NY 11576

Admission: Free with museum admission

This event is for children ages 3-5 and their caregivers! Explore the art exhibits, listen to stories, then create your own art inspired by everything you saw and heard that day!



North Hempstead Beach Park, 175 West Shore Road, Port Washington NY 11050

Admission: FREE ($10 Parking Fee)

Head down to this outdoor festival and listen to some music that you and your kids will enjoy!



Center for Science Teaching and Learning, 1 Tanglewood Rd., Rockville Centre NY 11570

Admission: $7 per person

Go take a guided walk through the nature trails at the Center for Science, Teaching, and Learning! Your children will be able to see the nightlife then visit the Amazing Animals Exhibit where they can see the nocturnal animals while they are actually awake!



Garden City Seventh Street, Garden City NY 11530

Admission: FREE

Each week is a different theme ranging from Mardi Gras to Country Western and much more. This event is fun for the whole family with live music, face paint and a whole lot more.



Long Beach Neptune Avenue, Long Beach

Admission: FREE

Grab a blanket and head down to the beach to watch some fun, family-friendly movies. Everything from Cars to The Goonies or even come and sing along to Grease!

Family Friendly Events on Long Island This Weekend

Cabin fever still lingering from this week’s blizzard? Get out of the house this weekend with some of these local events happening on Long Island:

Saturday
Winter Wonderland Wander - Oyster Bay, 1pm. For outdoor lovers, join a naturalist on a Saturday afternoon and walk in fresh air at the Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary while looking for animal tracks and learning how wildlife survives during the winter months. Afterwards, warm up with s'mores and hot chocolate. Cost: $5/person.

Free Cooking and Boxing – Huntington, 1pm. For fitness enthusiasts, live, eat and exercise healthier as a family at the UFC Gym Huntington. FIT 4 Long Island is an empowerment program where kids and teens develop their own interest in nutrition and fitness. Meet other families, create a healthy recipe, engage in a boxing demo and/or fitness experience and see for yourself what FIT 4 Long Island can offer your family. 

Science Saturday at the Long Island Science Center – Riverhead, 11am. Enjoy a day at the Long Island Science Center. Play and explore over 30 hands on exhibits and their weekly theme - this is open to the public EVERY Saturday! Cost: $5/person.

Sunday
Super Bowl Sunday Workshop - Bellmore, 1:30pm. Get ready to cheer on your favorite football team!  Kids will decorate their own chocolate jersey, make a chocolate covered item on our conveyor belt, and have a super sweet time.  Reservations required. Cost: $20/per child.
