Family Friendly Events This Weekend (October 15th & 16th)

From spook walks of all frights to an obstacle course for all-ages and all-abilities, here’s our picks for family fun events to check out this weekend!

Kids “Not So Scary” Days - Bayville Adventure Park
All Weekend | Price: $22.75 Scream Park Only, $31.75 Scream Park + Adventure Park, $39.50 2 Day Ticket for Scream Park + Adventure Park
Bring the little ones to Bayville Adventure Park for a less scary version of their nighttime haunted house. No live actors, less scary effects, plus many other Halloween themed events and attractions like a Spooky Tree Top Adventure, Tombstone Treasure Hunt, Pumpkin Patch, Halloween Story Telling and more!

Spooky Fest - Tanglewood Preserve, Rockville Centre
Saturday October 15th | Price: $10 for non-spooky attractions, $15 for all attractions (scary and non-scary)
This Saturday night, and another 6 nights this month, sixteen acres of the Tanglewood Preserve are transformed into a family friendly Halloween event. There’s a Not-So-Spooky Walk, a ‘Very Scary’ Spooky Walk, plus kids arts and crafts, zombie maze, mystic den, and some merry monsters! 

 
HappyFest - Long Island Sports Park, Calverton
Saturday October 15th | Price: $29, Children 3 and younger are Free
Take part in the first ever all-ages, all-abilities, accessible obstacle course and family fun festival! HappyFest is designed so that every member of the family can complete a 1 mile+ obstacle course, regardless of disabilities (or not). 

 
Village Day Fall Festival - The Great Lawn, Sands Point Preserve
Sunday October 16th | Price: $10 per car for members, $20 per car non-members
Enjoy a day on The Great Lawn overlooking the Long Island Sound with hayrides, a petting zoo, pony rides, pumpkin painting, and a Green Grocer market featuring award-winning artisanal cheese and fresh produce.

5 Long Island Farms You Need to Visit This Fall


Happy first day of fall everyone! If you're looking for fun ways to celebrate, head to one of these family friendly Long Island farms this weekend:


Pumpkin Picking Schmitt Family Farm 10/12/14 
Harbes Barnyard Adventure - 715 Sound Ave., Mattituck
Bring the kids to Harbes Barnyard Adventure, located within Harbes Family Farm in Mattituck. The 7 acre Barnyard Adventure includes tons of hands-on learning experiences, u-pick pumpkin patches, and the newly opened 2-acre Snoopy Corn Maze!


Gabrielsen’s Country Farm - 1299 Main Rd, Jamesport

Gabrielsen’s Country Farm and flower stand is located on Long Island’s North Fork in Jamesport. Not only known for their selection of Hardy Mums and fall decor - but also their amazing roasted corn, freshly made jams and jellies, and apple cider donuts! Check out their fall festival for a day of live music, hayrides, bouncy houses, and u-pick pumpkins.

Albert H. Schmitt Family Farm - 6 Bagatelle Road, Dix Hills 
Each weekend is the Fall Festival at Schmitt Family Farm and there is plenty of indoor and outdoor fun for the whole family. Homemade candy apples, roasted corn, apple cider, and fresh baked pies make this an autumn dream! Plus it was rated best pumpkin picking by CBS 2 New York - certainly can’t go wrong with a visit here.

Lewin Farms - 812 Sound Ave, Calverton
Now in its fourth generation, Lewin Farms has a long tradition of offering a wide variety of u-pick crops. You can’t possibly get any more local or fresh than that! Currently in season: tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, and apples! Pick your own crops before getting lost in their famous 5-acre corn maze. Each year the farm produces a new design which is never quite the same as the last. But don’t worry, it’s challenging but certainly doable for any age group.

Organics Today Farm - 169 Washington Street, East Islip NY 11730
Organics Today is a small Organic Farm on Long Island, specializing in organic heirloom tomatoes and organically grown fruits and vegetables! Pick your own pumpkins and then spend the afternoon on an authentic tractor pulled hay ride. Finish up with some roasted corn, hot apple cider, and pumpkin pie!

Fall is in the air and what better way to celebrate than with some autumn activities! Long Island’s East End is full of orchards and farms providing enough entertainment for the whole family. Take some time this weekend and check out some of the below hot spots for apple picking on LI:

Harbes Family Farm and Orchard - 5698 Sound Ave, Riverhead NY
With four locations, Harbes Orchard in Riverhead is the only one with a 15 acre apple orchard. Grab a ride on the Apple Express and pick your way till your heart’s content. They also offer a delicious assortment of lunch items and sweet snacks!

Lewin Farms - 812 Sound Avenue, Calverton
With a wide variety of pick your own fruits and vegetables, Lewin Farms' 1,100 acre farm is unmatched. Enjoy picking your favorite crops before getting lost in the 5-acre corn maze! Each year the farm produces a new design which is never quite the same as the last. But don’t worry, it’s challenging but certainly doable for any age group.

Milk Pail Farm and Orchard - 50 Horsemill Lane, Water Mill
Spend a day in the Hamptons picking your own apples and pumpkins at Milk Pail Farm and Orchard! Choose from twenty apple varities on dwarf apple trees - so even the tiniest of hands have something to grab!

Hank’s Pumpkintown - 240 Montauk Hwy, Water Mill
Gem mines, corn mazes, and apples - oh my! Family owned and operated Hank’s Pumpkintown has it all! Spend a weekend with the kids picking your favorite apples, getting your faces painted, and eating some fresh picked corn roasted to perfection.

Apple picking is not only great for celebrating the change of season - but eating apples aid in good oral health too! Biting and chewing an apple helps to stimulate the production of saliva, which in turn can reduce tooth decay by lowering bacteria in the mouth!
