Family Fun Chanukah Events

Giant menorahs, Chanukah stories, and latke fry-offs - there are so many ways to celebrate during this time of year. Enjoy this year’s Festival of Lights with other Long Island families at some of the below events:
Chanukah Song and Story Time
Wednesday, December 21st | 5:45-6:30pm
This Wednesday evening, bring the little ones to The Dolphin Bookshop & Cafe in Port Washington to join the rabbis and cantor of RSNS for holiday songs and stories. Sip hot cider and enjoy Linda’s latkes, the event is free and open for all. Perfect for those with young, elementary aged children in the home!


Menorah Lighting 2016
Saturday, December 24th | 5pm
Head to Long Beach to enjoy music, dancing, treats and a Menorah lighting with City Officials and members of local Synagogues and Temples! The Menorah in Kennedy Plaza will be lit each night of Chanukah beginning December 24th.

The Chanukah Experience
Sunday, December 25th | 3pm
This Sunday, the Chabad of Merrick-Bellmore-Wantagh is hosting the Chanukah Experience with none other than a Potato Latke Fry-Off, The Great Menorah Parade & Menorah Lighting, and Children’s Chanukah Performance & Fire Juggling Show! Suggested donation is $18 per family, RSVP here


Chanukah Bowling Event
Sunday, December 25th | 4-6pm
Join the Chabad of Mid-Suffolk for a night of family bowling at Bowlmor Lanes in Commack. Price is $12 per person and includes unlimited bowling, shoe rental, latkes and donuts, and of course - a bowling pin menorah ceremony!

Laser Tag/Festival of Lights
Thursday, December 29th | 7-9pm
Hosted by Sid Jacobson JCC, what better way is there to celebrate Chanukah, the festival of lights, than at Q-Zar? Perfect for kids in grades 6 through 12 - enjoy an evening of laser tag, arcade games, and everyone’s favorite fried Chanukah treats, Sufganiyot!

Tuesday, December 29th - Sunday, January 3rd

Last chance to check out Bayville’s Winter Wonderland before it closes for the season on Sunday, January 3rd! Families can visit Santa's Toy Factory Funhouse and Mirror Maze, ride the Holiday Express Train, go iceskating and more. Price: $22 (includes all activities).
 
Princess Frog - A Musical Fairy Tale
Long Island Children’s Museum
Sunday, December 27th - Thursday, December 31st at 11:30 am and 2 pm

Mix three wild boys, who happen to be princes, one frustrated (Queen) mother, three magic rocks and an enchanted frog and you have the makings of a modern fairy tale; set to come to life on the LICM stage! Fee: $9 with museum admission ($7 LICM members), $12 theater only.
 
Winter-Holiday Break Full Day Camp!  
The Safari Adventure Riverhead
Monday, December 28th - Thursday, December 31st from 9:30 am - 3:30 pm

GymNation and Safari Adventure are excited to team up and offer a fantastic 6 hour Winter Break special! Each day begins with 3 hours of action packed gymnastic fun. At 12:30pm, kids are escorted to Safari Adventure and will enjoy lunch followed by an afternoon of playing, climbing, and bouncing in the open play area. Camp program is limited to children 5 and up. Countdown to 12 at LICM

Ring in the New Year at LICM’s annual Noon Year’s Eve celebration. This year, join in on the Sweet 2016 themed party with a day full of fun activities, a ball drop, and an extreme dance party. Open to all ages, free with museum admission.
 
New Year’s Bash for Kids!
Cold Spring Harbor Whaling Museum
Thursday, December 31st from 11am - 12pm

Bring the family to count down to 12 (noon!). Enjoy free hot chocolate and crafts. Best for ages 3-6, siblings welcome. $8 for children, adults regular admission.

Mrs. Claus Saves the Day!

Mrs. Claus has her hands full helping a youthful reindeer who possesses an unusual skill. Harassed mercilessly and excluded by his peers because of this trait, he manages to prove himself one Christmas Eve after Santa and Mrs. Claus ask him to help out. $11 per ticket

2015 Holiday Events on Long Island


From holiday performances to light shows, winter wonderlands to Santa breakfasts - Long Island has no shortage of family friendly events. If you’re looking for ways to keep your kids entertained this weekend, we’ve got you covered:

My Christmas Elf: The Musical

Mittens the Elf - the best toy maker in the workshop - is sent to a home by Santa to find out what toys the children would like for Christmas. As Mittens endures many funny trials and tribulations, he not only starts a new family tradition but also discovers the true magic of Christmas. Price: $12. For more information, call 631-218-2810.

With decorated period rooms, Santa, cookies and cider, the Westbury House’ holiday celebration is a must for the entire family. Holiday crafts take place this weekend from 10am - 1pm. Price: $10 adults, $5 children ages 7 to 17.

Meet Santa's reindeer at Hicks Nurseries

Now - December 22rd
Santa and his reindeer are at Hicks, now through December 22nd. While you’re there, stroll through the free animated story “The Sweetest Christmas Ever” featuring life-sized animatronic scenes. Enjoy the ongoing story all day every day through Christmas. Admission is always free. Please bring a non-perishable food item to donate to Long Island Cares.

Jolly Jump
Pump It Up of Great Neck (225 Community Dr., Suite 250)
December 19th
Santa and Frosty are coming to Pump It Up for a jumping, climbing and sliding holiday event. Frosty will handing out special treats throughout the arena and Santa will be available for pictures in the party room while children can enjoy a bagel breakfast. Jolly Jump will take place this Saturday at 9 am, space is limited. Price: $19.95 per child; registration is required. For more information, call 516-466-PUMP.

Holiday Lights Spectacular at Jones Beach
Jones Beach State Park
Now - January 3rd
Take the family for a drive through Jones Beach’s Holiday Lights Spectacular - featuring more than 150 displays and animated characters synced to holiday music. Stop by the heated Holiday Village afterwards for s’mores, holiday vendors, a hay maze ride, and photos with Santa! And on Wednesday nights, you can bring your pet. Prices are $20 weekdays, $25 weekends.

Happy Memorial Day Weekend! Looking for ways to celebrate the unofficial start to summer while honoring our nation’s troops with the whole family? Well you’re in luck! Long Island has a bunch of happenings you’ll be sure to enjoy:

Bethpage Air Show
Jones Beach, Wantagh
Saturday May 23rd and Sunday May 24th  //  10a - 3p
Kick off the summer season with the annual Jones Beach Air Show! The Thunderbirds will be performing, as well as many others. Parking is $10 per vehicle.

Marine and Navy Helicopter Landing
Eisenhower Park, East Meadow
Saturday May 23rd  //  10a - 1p
The U.S. Marines and Navy will take over the skies about Eisenhower Park for a dramatic display of helicopter landing right into the Kite Field. Helicopters will land promptly at 10am and will be on display for families to view after landing, so bring your camera! Kite Field is just south of Veterans Memorial with parking in Fields 6 and 6a. FREE.

North Hempstead’s Memorial Day Fireworks
North Hempstead Beach Park, Port Washington
Saturday May 23rd  //  6p - 10p
The town will be honoring our nation’s fallen troops with a tribute ceremony, live music, and fireworks! Fireworks will begin at darkness. Admission is free, parking is $5.

Get in the holiday spirit with one of Long Island’s holiday favorites - the Jones Beach Holiday Lights Spectacular! Take a 2.5 mile drive through the park to see over 150 holiday themed light displays, all synchronized to holiday music.
