DIY Father’s Day Paint Crafts

Have some little ones in your household? Then they’ll need your help in creating a special Father’s Day gift for Dad. If Dad is a fisherman, golfer, or baseball fanatic – these DIY paint crafts are definitely up his alley:

Fishing You a Happy Father’s Day!
What you'll need:
  • Ceramic Mug
  • Enamel Paint
  • Tiny Hands
  • Paint Brush
  • Sharpies/Painters Pens (optional)
  • Oven
This punny mug is the perfect memento for Dad. Take a ceramic mug (find a cheap one at a dollar store!) and wash it well with vinegar or glass cleaner to remove any oil or residue. Then, paint a thin layer of paint on your little one’s hand and press it onto the mug, lift off, and wait for it to dry. Once dry – help your child paint on the remaining elements (other fish, fishing hook, bubbles, etc.) with a paint brush. Take it a step further by writing Happy Father’s Day (or Fishing You a Happy Father’s Day) across the top of the mug with a sharpie or painters pen. When finished, place the mug in a cold oven and set it to 350 degrees. Once heated, set a timer for 30 minutes and once it goes off – shut off the heat and let the oven (and mug inside) cool down.

Daddy’s Golf Course
What you'll need:
  • Construction Paper
  • Paint
  • Toothpicks
  • Glue
  • Story Telling Skills
  • Little Feet
Tell your family story by giving Dad a personalized golf course! Paint a thin layer of paint onto your kids’ feet and have them step on a large piece of construction paper. Then type up each child’s story, print and glue next to each “hole.” Finish by decorating each hole with a toothpick and triangle cut out with the flag number. Sand traps, water, and other accessories optional.

Hands Down – We Make a Good Team Plate
What you'll need:
  • Ceramic Plate
  • Enamel Paint
  • Brushes
  • Sharpies/Painters Pens
  • Tiny Hands
Repeat a similar process as the earlier mug – clean your plate well with vinegar or glass cleaner to remove any residue. Then paint a thin layer of paint onto your child’s hands and have them press down in the center of the plate. Once dry, start adding the other elements – heart stitching and a message to dad. Place the finished product in a cold oven and heat up to 350 degrees, bake for 20-30 minutes, and allow the oven and plate to cool down!

No matter what you choose to make for dad this Father’s Day, he’s sure to appreciate your heartfelt gift. Have even more ideas? Tell us about them at our Facebook page.

Is dad having trouble letting go of his old college or sports tees? Better Homes and Gardens suggests transforming them into cool keepsake pillows! Simply cut the t-shirt fabric to the desired size (allowing for 1/4-inch seams) and sew together. Make sure to leave an opening to fill.

Business Card Holder:
You'll need an altoids tin, low VOC spray paint, school glue, scissors, a pencil, and recycled paper. Trace the tin on recycled paper and cut it out. Then spray your tin with paint and set to dry. Write "Dad" in the center of the paper in bubble letters and cut it out. Finally, mix your school glue with a bit of water and use the mixture to glue the paper to the top of the altoids tin. Colorful Coaster Set:
You'll need plain bathroom tiles from hardware store, Mod Podge, felt pads, and tissue paper. Paint a layer of Mod Podge over the tile, then decorate with cut up pieces of tissue paper, apply another layer of Mod Podge over top to seal the coasters. Allow coasters to dry completely and flip the coaster over and add a felt pad to each corner. (Inner Child Fun)
Felt Koozie:
You'll need pieces of felt, hot glue/ hot glue gun, scissors, a pen, and a ruler. Wrap your main piece of felt around a cup Dad typically uses to determine length/size of the koozie and mark felt accordingly. Leave some extra room so you can glue together. Cut felt to the appropriate size. Draw and cut out letters and art of your choice from other pieces of felt and hot glue them to the middle of your main piece. Wrap the felt around the cup again and mark where the felt overlaps. After that,  just hot glue the ends that overlap together. (Crafting a Green World)
