Indoor Snow Day Fun

With all these snow days you may be running out of activities for the kids. If they’re tired of outdoor fun or would rather avoid this morning’s freezing rain, here are a few in house ideas to pass the time:

Bring the snow inside! Well, not literally.. Round up some bars of soaps and get ready to create some snow clouds. Microwave a bar of Ivory soap for a few minutes and watch how it expands. Put the fresh snow clouds in the bathtub and let the kiddies play, they can make shapes, snowmen, and in the end reshape them into soap bars. For a full tutorial with photos click here »

Treasure hunts! Make paper hats out of construction paper and pretend to be pirates, sailing aorund the house searching for treasure. The treasure can range from a little piece of candy to snack time treats. Another option? If you have a small puzzle in storage, hide the puzzle pieces throughout your home. Every piece found is one step closer to completeing the puzzle!

Made a big purchase or moved recently? Break out those huge cardboard boxes. Let your kids decorate the boxes into a spaceship, boat, club house, you name it. They can spend hours coloring, cutting out holes, glueing/taping on decorations, etc. Once they’re finished for the day just fold the box back up and save for the next bad weather day!

Turn your living room into a movie theater! Put sheets over the windows and round up all the pillows in the house to make one large pillow bed and lounge. Dig into your DVD collection or check out Netflix and On Demand channels. Your children will think it’s their lucky day, they won’t have to take off their pajamas or be told to turn off the television!
