Toothpaste Tricks!

Adelberg Montalvan Pediatric Dental and Orthodontics

Toothpaste isn't just for maintaining a healthy, white smile!

In fact over the course of a year, toothpaste can actually end up saving you time and money - what's better than that?!

See below for some unexpected ways toothpaste can help you and your family this year:

Stain Removal and Cleaning

  • Crayon on Painted Walls - so your kiddies decided to show their artistic side over your walls? Not a problem! Rub a damp cloth and some toothpaste on your marked-up wall and rinse with a clean wet cloth. Vuala, good as new!
  • Baby Bottles - hard to avoid that sour-milk smell. Simply clean out the bottles with toothpaste using a bottle-scrubber and rinse very well with water.
  • Jewelry Cleaner -use toothpaste and an old toothbrush to clean and polish jewelry. Gently scrub and rinse to leave clean and shiny.

Skin Remedies

  • Bee Sting Ointment -outside playing with the kids and you have a showdown with the unexpected bee. A touch of toothpaste can take the edge off the pain of a sting and sooth the wound. Make sure to remove the stinger first of course!
  • Bug Bite Relief - hard to avoid when out doors, dab some toothpaste on those annoying bites and forget all about your itchy woes. Toothpaste can be a lifesaver on a camping trip!

Deodorizer

  • Use toothpaste to clean your cutting board, counter, dishes, or any item that has taken on an unpleasant smell. Wash that chopped onion sent from your hands as well by simply washing with toothpaste!

Defogger

  • Goggles -great alternative to pricey defogger gel. Simply squirt a dab in each lens and rub in thoroughly with your fingers, then rinse well. Now your little ones won't have a problem on their pool days!

Tooth Fact Tuesday!

Adelberg Montalvan Pediatric Dental and Orthodontics

How does a mouthful of chalk, ashes, honey-tobacco, lemon juice or charcoal sound? Probably not very appealing; yet if you were born prior to the invention of toothpaste, about a century ago, those were the substances you would have to use to clean your teeth!

Check out some other interesting teeth facts below:
  • If you thought the 32 teeth humans have seem like a lot, certain species of dolphins can have up to 250 teeth in their mouths!
  • Walt Disney had wooden teeth
  • Each year the People’s Republic of China celebrate “Love your Teeth Day” on September 20th
  • In the Middle Ages, Germans often believed kissing a donkey would rid a toothache
  • Another solution to rid pain? Ancient Chinese would wrap tiny parchment paper containing written incantations and prayers around teeth that hurt to relieve their pain
  • Prior to the invention of a toothbrush, people scrubbed their teeth with their fingers, or leaves and twigs
  • Americans spend $100 billion per year on hair care products – and only $2 billion a year on dental care products
  • Odontophobia is the fear of teeth
  • Prince Charles had his personal valet, Michael Fawcett, squeeze toothpaste onto his royal toothbrush
  • Betsy Ross had a fully formed set of teeth when she was born
